Def the best signing so far.  A replacement for Smid.  And by replacement, I mean upgrade.

When is the last time we saw that around these parts?

If anything, he should get credit for somehow putting up consistent numbers - clockwork consistent - with four different teams over four years.

If he doesn't put up ~35-40 points here, the problem would not be with him, but with something in the system.  Benny seems to fit in any system.

They drafted him because Katz' kid loved him.  Now that he's bigger than him, the gloss has worn off ^__^

But really, this is the worst time to trade Yak.  He's our asset, we can't just pretend we didn't draft him, and hes at a career low in value.  No choice but to try to build him up, and see if he is a piece of the core, or a piece to move, but he can't move unless he improves.

yeah, I'll bet you're in shock after getting a 5-year deal at over 3 times the cash you made last year on a one-year deal!  And the fact this is the first time you've ever been signed for over a year post ELC!

Anyway, now that you're one of us, i hope the best for you ^__^

But I don't expect you to match your contract value, and won't crucify you when you don't.

Love the term, hate the cash, but term is more relevant at this moment imho.

Lawdy we are closer to Mcdavid than Buffalo right now, that ain't right!

heh......  can't help but feel similar.   I know Gags wasn't the answer here, and i know Teddy has size....but so did Penner, and we ran him out of town right good!

I'm hopin' he'll turn it around here, but really, we now have a gaping hole at 2C and unless we get a miracle we are a sure shot for 7th in the Pacific next year.

Around the NHL / Re: Ovie the Loafer

This is why we need to instill some semblance of a defensive mindset in Yak now.

A generation of Russians look up to this guy.  Yak needs to know that he can be better than him, and he can be; he has the shot, if he beats him in attitude, we have a gem.

Ovie will never win a cup.  And he's a terrible rapper.

(I'd post a link of his terrible rapping, but I get a 502 bad gateway message when I do.  Just google Ovechkin rapping if you're curious.  Actually, don't.  Its bad ^__^)

Got to love the hindsight logic.

It matters not what you had - only what you have.  You can't worry about the value of a piece that is no longer yours.  By all means, there should be evaluations made on these choices, but that can't be the focus.

I'd be more impressed if the media had more 'what the Oilers should do' as opposed to 'what they should've done,' which only serves to poison the mood of the fans.  Of course, that also may have been the goal - I get the feeling Lowe has burned bridges all across the country, and some can't fight the temptation to stick it to him publicly.  I was reading some fantasy news on the NHL website, and a writer had mentioned how wrong he was to recommend owners trade Giroux when he was slumping earlier in the season.   I'd like to see more of that - stick your neck out, make a recommendation publicly, and if it goes south, admit you were wrong.   Did the guys writing these hindsight articles recommend the Oilers take Seguin and Landeskog at the time?  Murray?  I doubt it.

I feel Hall's 2-way game has improved.

Thats about it.

Like I said, he's got 10 games.  We aren't firing him now, so his job - and several others, I'd imagine - are on the line.   Or they should be.  Some players included.   Every game is game 7 now.  These are our playoffs, and I'm reserving judgement until I see how this plays out.  There is still much to play for.

10 games, against top teams, competing for playoff spots and positions, teams wanting to go into the playoffs on an upswing.

These 10 games will decide his fate.  Not so much the record, but how we play.  We capitulate, we finish poor, Eakins' fate does not look good.  But if he is able to wipe the slate clean, and we battle, we compete these next 10 games, and he'll be staying, and I'll be backing that call.

Needless to say, i won't be voting until season's end.

Oh, I know what you mean.  But when you get thrashed by a local rival, you want to see some blood.  I'm not above admitting that.

And really, that's why we signed him again, it wasn't for veteran mentorship in the A.  Guy can't even skate.

He's probably trying to figure out how he can get back on Krueger's good side so he can get a role in Southampton next year ^___^

Can't defend Eakins this time.  It actually looked like he was angry that his suit got wet.

"Yeah, we're down 5-1 in our own barn, against our blood rivals, but at least I got a great deal on this suit at Moore's, twenty dollah tie, yo----WHAT THE, THATS IT HALL YOUR BENCHED."

I'd be fine with the benching if it was for his horrible 2-way play tonight (he was very poor), but it seems it was for that incident.  Disappointed :(

TH, agree completely with your visor comments about Gazdic, Cherry was way off-base.  Yeah, just take that instigator at put your team at a disadvantage, following the mythical "tough-guy code" is more important.  On that note, really wished Big Mac was playin' tonight.   We completely capitulated.

Fair enough.  Though I think you and I could be decent replacements for the assistants :P

It is an odd strategy with his allocation of minutes - Perhaps no one knows how to play his game, so he spends most of practice teaching (hence the easy practices), and leaves the games to work on conditioning.

No I don't actually believe that.  Though really, you can only give a line of Gazdic/McIntyre/Jones so many minutes, too.

PP is not (solely)  the reason we lost this game.  One goal against the nephew of Jeff Hackett, that's something beer league teams should aspire to.
